Yesterday a card was delivered to my new flat not addressed to me. It was obviously a card and had been sent from France with no return address on it.

I opened it and found it was a birthday card for a youngish boy from his Gran and Granddad. It contained a 20 Euro bank note.

It said in the card that they enjoyed seeing him grow up on Facebook. I put his name into FB and found a likely match.

I messaged him saying that I had his card and would send him it if he gave me his current address. To date, he hasn’t read the message.

I don’t think there is anything else I can do.

Any ideas?

Is it a rented flat? The landlord may know who if he were there before
It was nice of you to try and find him, but should you give the money to the B. Legion? No. without wanting to be rude, you shouldn't have opened it, and it's not your money to give, you should give it back to the post office to deal with.
Are you on the Nextdoor website? I quite often see posts where people are asking if anyone knows of a certain person due to them receiving their post. Might be worth a try.
Have you still got the envelope. maybe theres a similar adress, Apolgies if youve allready done that
Postman may be a good shout, might be a family in the block or nearby
21:52 and what do you think the PO will do if there is no return address on the envelope?

Fair enough, thewinner but the PO will be in the same state that I’m in. There’s no return address. Just a French stamp.
//and what do you think the PO will do if there is no return address on the envelope?//

Think its RM not PO that TheWinner meant. Answer is probably not much but maybe they have policys for dealing with money/valubles like this, or maybe someones complained that this mail was not delivered
Something similar happened to us a while back, and when all else failed, we took it back to the local sorting office. I think they have a department that deals with stuff like this.
^ Yes I bet they have a policy :) How would the PO/RM know it wasn't delivered?
Thank you bobbinwales, thats what I meant. RM.
I'm sure it can be traced back to a sorting office in France from the postmark. I remember reading a detective (Morse?) storey where they were trying to trace a sender
And then what?
Forget it the 237SJ. Just trying to suggest that post office/royal mail etc have more resources and experience of this.
You have done all you can. Put the card and money in a drawer and in a years time change the 20 Euro note at a bank and give it to a charity.
If you send a message via messenger to somebody you're not "friends" with, they are not easily seen; I found one after 7 months of it being there!! x
