There's not a single word APG has said on this thread that I disagree with.
I simply don't understand the self-important harrumphing that goes on when the question of MP's pay, or the amount they earn from second jobs, arises.
Cox is an incredibly clever QC, he's served his constituents well (we assume otherwise why would they keep on returning him) so why the hell shouldn't he earn money from his undoubted skill?
It seems to me some people will only be satisfied if all MPs do is MP'ing - that's just daft.
Personally I think MPs as a rule are underpaid (of course there's exceptions that prove the rule, Raynor being a good example, plus of course Corbyn and Abbott, all three would never survive in a commercial setting because uselessness/mediocrity is soon discovered) and therefore given the undoubted intelligence of many of them, and the undoubted success they have achieved outwith being an MP, bloody good luck to them if they can earn on this side.
Cue the obligatory nurses pay comment....
