Having had some stomach problems over the last few weeks I had my bloods done, all within the normal range. I then had to do a bowel test which showed blood on a scale of 9 I believe the Doctor said. Also I had a test for celiac disease which came back positive. I was surprised that it was not treated as urgent at my Surgery when letting me have the results as I had to wait almost 2 weeks for a Doctor to call me and I have now been referred to the Hospital and should hear within 2 weeks to go and see them. I think the reason it was not prioritised is because the reading was on the lower scale for blood. Has anyone had these problems, presume I will have to have a colonoscopy. I am a lady in her early 70’s and I had a mastectomy 19 years ago for cancer with chemo etc.

I think you're correct in saying you'll likely have to have a colonoscopy, but they'll probably do a physical examination first. As you've tested positive for celiac, you might also have a gastroscopy which will probably be done at the same visit as the colonoscopy - which is what happened to me. Good luck.
No,I have not had these problems.
Yes you will need a Colonoscopy to make a diagnosis.

Thanks, hopefully I’ll get it before next year as I would really like to get some sort of diagnosis as to what is going on.
Good goalie is correct in that you might have a camera investigation via the mouth and stomach at the same time.
I'd keep on at them - the earlier you get the necessary treatment the better
Mine wasn't at the same time - one after the other!

Thanks, I’m going to check with the Doctor at the end of next week to make sure the referral has been sent. I’ll take some of my savings out and go private if I have to rather than wait months.
Good idea - let me know if you need any info on the procedures

Also of course I’ve been told to carry on eating gluten until I get to the Hospital for further consultations, as it may be my intestines are inflamed.

Thanks GG
I'm sorry to hear of your experience riptide and hope your appointment comes through promptly. I cant help wondering why its not advisable to cut our gluten if there is a positive for celiac. Gluten free diet is quite easy now and friendly on the intestines.

I think the reason they want me to carry on is that they are wondering whether the celiac disease is causing the bleeding. If I cut out gluten my intestines may settle down and it may not be so apparent. I asked the Doctor about this and her answer was, good question, and I think she said carry on with not restricting the gluten. To be honest I was so shocked to be told about the results having waited so long to talk to the Doctor, I did not take it all in.
Cancer is a worry, and i had a radical prostatectomy after a scare. Best wishes to you going ahead.
