Queens Patinum Jubilee
59 Answers
Will you be celebrating our dear Queens platinum jubilee on the 2-5 of June, if she’s spared for it then I hope to organise a street party reminiscent of when she came to the throne, lots of flags and music , I remember 1953 on Coronation Day, it poured down , my Mum dressed me in a lovely blue dress and I wore white knee length socks with red, white and blue crepe paper tabs on elastic, plaits with big r.w.b bows,it was so wet , the dye ran down my new white socks before we went to plan B and had our party in a church hall
Do you have any memories of June 1953, The Coronation?

I was beginning to wonder if it was only me that got it right. The Queen ascended to the throne in February 1952 and wasn't crowned for over a year afterwards.
Anyway, I'll be at a festival with Randy. He'll have great fun pushing me around in a hippy wheelchair!!

There has been some confusion on this thread between Assention and Coronation.

I doubt we'll have a party here, Bobbi... :-)...but I do remember clearly the Coronation Day party in the UK.
My mum took me to the school hall where we were having a celebratory tea around a big table.
I was two seats away from Tommy M. A lady was bringing around a plate of cakes for us to choose from. I spotted a pink fondant fancy type cake. I wanted it. It was mine. Then Tommy took it! I had a tantrum and was removed from the hall and taken home.
Fast forward twelve years. A knock at our door. It was Tommy. He was asking me for a date.
I gave him short shrift. As if I'd date the boy who took my cake in 1953!
