How Long Do You Keep Cards/Gifts Etc??

Am just trying to clear out the very top of the wardrobe, which has several large bags/boxes full of cards etc. I’ve got them down and am going thru them, and they have got everything from the very first anniversary card mr smow gave me, to Xmas cards from the kids years and years ago, teddies the kids gave me on Mother’s Day like 15 years ago, loads and loads of stuff. mr Smow came in in middle of me doing all this and said I should only keep stuff for a couple of years, as where do you draw the line…….. what do you think??

first anniversary card? Keep. 15yo Mother's Day cards not so much. Can you wear the teddies?

We've still got our decorations up as cards are still coming in. I don't want to strip the house too early just because the Royal Mail has collapsed.

I even had a bag with the place mats, personalised serviettes, menus etc from our wedding reception, 13 years ago, plus the receipt from our honeymoon bill and the welcome card that was on our bed on our honeymoon night lol.

I keep them until the following year and then I read them over and over again.

Am loving all of the answers everyone. A,though today I did get rid of a lot (but also kept a lot) it really did make me smile looking back at it all. And a few tears lol, happy ones. X

I posted on this a few weeks back. I had a mammoth clear out of card. Going back to retirement cards ( 19 years ago) welcome to new home same time. Every birthday, Christmas, Mother's Day cards. I had 16 carrier bags full. I felt terrible getting rid of them but I had to do it.
