Normandy

Myself and 3 other adults are planning a trip to Normandy. Does anyone know any travel agents / websites who deal with this type of holiday. I want to go feb 2005, for about 3 nights. I want to take the ferry across and stay in a town near to the D-Day sites and Normandy beaches.

If you want a conducted tour of the battlefields and landing zones there are several specialist tour companies - Holts Tours is one I know of that has temepted me before, see http://www.battletours.co.uk/ , but stick battelfield tours into Google and you'll find several. But if you don't want a guide then its easy-peasy to do it yourself by car, take the ferry to Caen, use the web to prebook some hotels. The war museum in Caen is not to be missed, and the rest of the sites and beach are well signposted. Most travel agents have brochures on camping holidays in France. Where you can stary in a tent or static caravne for however long and travel by ferry with your car. There's a wide range of sites so you should be able to find some nearby the battle sites as I've stayed in Mormandy for a holiday before where we were quite near to some.

You don't say where you live but my family stick to the Poole/Cherbourg Ferry route and stay in Bayeux - good for accommodation, about 5 miles from the D-Day sites and beaches, and the Tapestry is worth a look as well.

Well I live in Cheltenham Gloucestershire so I'm not bothered where we go from. I was thinking Portsmouth - Caen or Le Harve
