Was having a chat with the family last night about TV programmes. Out of nowhere I remembered a girl I used to work with way back in the 60s. She had a black/white portable TV which stayed in a cupboard. She only took it out to watch a programme she particularly wanted to see then it was switched off and went back in the cupboard. Man from Uncle was one show it came out for. Thought it very strange at the time but when I look at the rubbish offered up these days, perhaps she had the right idea. Funnily enough I could take you to her flat but for the life of me I can't remember her name.

With me having a nasty suspicious mind, I find myself wondering about whether or not she had a licence for it. If not, she might have wanted to keep her telly out of sight (except for when she was actually watching it, of course) in case someone checking up on TV licences came knocking on her door ;-)
A teaching colleague of mine once moved into a flat where he found himself being hounded for non-payment of TV rental, and for non-payment of a TV licence, by the previous occupier. He thought that was 'a bit off', given that the previous occupier of the flat was . . .
