Keeping out Spiders

I read somewhere that you could put something around the door and window frames to keep out spiders, but stupidly I forgot to make a note of what it was.

Now that the evil things are starting to come in and I am petrified of them I need to know. Can anyone tell me what will do the job?

i think it was orange oil

apparently they don't like the smell of conkers, my mum has a spray called Spider Stop which contains chestnut oil

I know some people don't like spiders, but they are the householders best friend, welcome them in with open arms, I even give them names.

If I see one I either run screaming (to find someone to squash it) or splat it with the nearest thing I can (if there is no one else to squash it!)

I think the orange oil one is what I read before

I think they have Spider Stop in the Betterware catalogue - my mum has that so I will have a look if you think it works.

Anything is worth a try as its still too warm to keep the windows closed.

how are spiders the householders best friend?they need cobwebs to catch other pests,so if you keep your house clean you wont have cobwebs so spiders are just another pest really arnt they?

Hi all,

Leave your spider webs until christmas, then spray them with colourful paint - they make lovely christmas decorations.

I'm with you, have you ever taken the time to watch a spider spinning a web. Its amazing, a work of art, far cleverer than us.................plus how can a tiny little thing like that put the fear of god into us big brave humans. If they're not hurting us, lets leave them alone to catch all the bugs out there!

Got to admit I'm a bit nervous of crane flys but thats because some lovely little boy at school thought it would be funny to stuff one down my blouse!!

Someone did that to my mum with a worm at school and she is now petrified of them. She loves gardening though.

Poor you spazvas - I expect thats really awful for you at the moment as they keep coming indoors too
