Chelle //hBecause if it's under a tenner you don't get labelled a thief //
OK, but theft is theft no matter what the amount.
Not in Germany danny, that's why it's different.
I answered a question (and you forgot the to cut and paste the:) )
I didn't give an opinion so no need to respond like that
Chelle, sorry if I have offended ypu, i was just pointing out that in UK law where theft is concerned the amount stolen is inconequential.Sorry once again if I have offended you.
I have found money in the street a few times. The occasional note drifting in the wind is not worth me taking to the police station.
I found a wage packet on a Friday with a piddling small wage in it. Though it was out of my way, I took it to the Police station. Turned out to be owned by a relative related to a neighbour, and they praised my honesty for years afterwards.
My favourite story is finding a wallet in the road stuffed with cash. I opened it and found a bank card from my bank in my name What The Funicular? I thought it was a set up prank.
// but theft is theft no matter what the amount.//

I'm with Ken. Finders keepers unless I can ID the owner and be guaranteed the cash will find its way back to them.

You had found your own wallet - or am i missing something there ?
yeah you are missing the standard AB one-liner
how it get dare den? how?

lots toread
it seems the only poss charge is - theft by finding
and you have to get around that - by showing that the loser intended to throw away - animus abandonandi (*)
and THAT depends on the circs...

(*) ter daah - you know I was gonna do that, didnt you. there is a presumption in english law that there is usually NO animus a.
that is why you can steal from dustbins ....
Horses for courses - I found a fiver outside Morrisons & pocketed it. At Aldi the checkout lady gave me change for £20 instead of the £10 I gave her. I pointed out her mistake cos I knew she would have to account for it.
Yeah finding keeping changes behaviour
One summer kids were always screaming and playing around a buddleia in the park. and one day a stranger handed me my wallet which the dog used to carry out to the buddleia
without the money

I never say the kids again
I always correct mis-changes
i dont think that is finding keeping
and yes the clerk gets screwed at cash-out

Restaurants - it is a simple " i want to come here again!"

O god no one reads my posts. I am watched reader ! 1987 - a complete stranger came up to me at a supermarket and said: "You put up a drip on my friends sixk baby when no one else could".
I only misbehave now in the columns of AB !
//"You put up a drip on my friends sixk baby when no one else could".//

Funny what people remember - I went for a job at a paint factory, being interviewed by the head chemist & the HR bloke. The HR bloke sez - "You once saved me from 3 bullies". I didn't remember him but I remembered the incident - on a visit back to see my primary school headmaster. I was about 13 & the HR bloke about 6 or 7 at the time.

I didn't get the job BTW!
not her - the fren' - actually I had an anxious discussion with - - the father, and neither leddy was present.

I am a good boy in public now - now screaming attack or sarcasm

Phone call to police about lardy dah- " you're the one who scraped X off the motorway five years ago" - more shock.

I found a wallet in my own name that wasn’t mine. I have a fairly common first and second name, but had never uncounted anyone in the real world with my name.

I was waiting for a lift, and noticed a wallet in the road being run over by traffic. I retrieved it and found cards in my name. Exact spelling, same bank etc. but it wasn’t me.
After about 10 minutes, a taxi turned up and the driver got out, inspecting the road. It was his wallet. I gave him his wallet bulging with notes, and he just said thanks and drove away.
coincidences eh!

A friend called Susan was helping me decorate my new house. The phone rang & said "Hi Dave is Susan there?" I handed the phone to Susan but it turned out it was a wrong number!
The moral of the story - when I have found large amounts of money and been honest, I have never made a penny.
My friend's Mum found £1000 in rolled up bank notes (held together with an elastic band) in the street in Kensington. She figured it was either dropped by a drug dealer or rich Arab so she kept it.
My mudder - 1938 - with a friend found a bag wiv lotsa moolah in it. Obviously lost and obviously a lot
and handed it in to the Police
In swept a woman, who had lost it , took it up and said
" your reward will be in Heaven !"
