Great Speech From Boris......

Forget all the hysterical politicking over trivia. This is when a great world leader earns his keep. It's the big occasions that the best leaders show what they are made of. TGL and TGM would be proud of our PM for his performance during the Ukraine crisis.

It seems there are a few people here who don’t understand that this war is our problem. It’s Europe’s problem - and it’s the world’s problem. Thank God they weren’t around in 1939. I dread to think where this country would be now.

That's a bit silly: that was an EU meeting, but the genius of Putin is that he's managed to unite NATO.
Not so sure about that.

thank god no ABer knows any history
Appeasement was popular and the events of Sep 1938 ( peace in our time) were popular and a desired outcome. I admit that Daladier (*) in the plane saw the crowds and asked 'have the come to lynch us'
It was only Aug 39 - Nazi soviet pact that ( thunderclap) everyone thought christ there was gonna be a war
(*) The laddy who? all Abers ask
but you know what they say: if you dont like History you are reading: rewrite it!

That link doesn’t work but if it’s about the Polish migs it was the US who nixed that not NATO
Things have changed now.
I’ve said it before tho: NATO was never designed as a weapons dispensary for other nations: it’s a defensive organisation. But nations can and do act on an individual basis

Poland wanted to send those planes.
The US disagreed.
It was nothing to do with NATO.
The fact both countries are NATO members is irrelevant.
I think it is very relevant, especially as it was you who claimed that Putin has united NATO.
I’m sure he thought anything but when he heard the US had put the mockers on the idea.

Putin has been the biggest shot in the arm for NATO in a generation.
Or I’d prefer to call it “wake-up call”
The only criticism I’d have is that they’ve been slow to provide the heavy weapons needed to blast russia out again.
But that’s never stopped individual countries notably the Czech Republic doing so anyway
