Personally I don't understand why, after a nice savoury meal, there is a tradition to squeeze in a sugary and fatty follow up.

I was brought up on suet puddings, apple pies and crumbles, tinned fruit and cream, rice pudding, figgy pudding - every day there was a pudding after dinner (at lunch time) and home caked after tea.
I developed a love of sticky toffee puddings, cheesecake, roulades but can't remember the last time I ate any pudding.
