A few months ago he was giving millions away in £50 vouchers to have your bike fixed so you could become fighting fit, and avoid obesity.
Now he does a U turn on junk food. What a joker! Eat plenty of chocs, sweets, salty snacks, any rubbish you like., and protect the NHS?

May be its the obesity patients that are soaking up the never ending funding?
May be the waiting lists are full of obesity patients that have ignored diet advice given in the past by their local doctors.
If we didn't have local authorities ( public health department) there would no doubt be a lot more sick people about. The towns and cities would be full of dirty food outlets like Asia.

That’s what the NHS is there for – to treat sick patients, fat, thin, old, young, active, lazy, healthy eaters, indolent and lazy eaters. Why should it pick and choose who it treats?

You don’t need local authorities to run essential services. There is nothing that local authorities do that could (and most usually should) be carried out by other bodies. You don’t need a local “government” to run a system of hygiene inspections.

NJ, It appears that you are more than happy for even more tax payers money to be soaked up within the NHS to treat people / help people who refuse to help themselves then.
Would this also include the same drunks and druggies that fill the emergency departments night after night, and in many cases given beds to recover?
Like I have said, but you tend to ignore, obesity leads to many other health problems, and the obesity problem now starts from a very young age. Young kids missing a healthy breakfast, many walking to school with a packet of crisps instead.
What other bodies do you have in mind to replace local authorities?
