The independent tv channels that rely on advertising really don't want the BBC to be funded by advertising. There is only so much advertising revenue to go round and they would lose out.
The days of only two tv stations to choose from, having to get up out of your chair to change channels are long gone. We are no longer 'forced' to sit through the ad breaks. I am not the only one that records everything I watch on commercial channels and FF through the adverts - and many others channel surf or look at their mobiles during the breaks. Spending money on television advertising is not the value for money it once was - internet advertising is the better option for many companies.
I certainly don't want the Beeb to be governed by the advertisers.
