I don't think it's really about cricket as I know and love - it's just the instant gratification of seeing a particular slice of the action (I'm afraid that's an increasing trend everywhere).

I'm glad they called it "The Hundred" & omitted "cricket" from the title!

dave, if you just think of it as a different sport completely, it works. It's NOT the cricket you know and love, it's just played with the same equipment and on the same pitch. It makes cricket more accessible to people like my daughter, and who knows, it might be the gateway drug to her developing a love of test cricket. That cant be a bad thing. I had only heard of 3 players this year, so i thin there is probably room for both - it's not like they are stealing the cream from the internatioanl team

Good point, bednobs. Many things fall into that category and are perfectly good in their own right but poor (in some people's opinion) compared to the original. Think instant coffee, for example - the purists condemn it but treat it as a completely different drink to ground coffee and it's perfectly acceptable as a drink.
