My friend's had his TFT monitor for a couple of months and the other day when he turned it on the picture had gone black. The windows logo appeared, but could only just be seen. I thought at first that the monitors brightness etc had been altered so pressed the menu buttons on the side. I was expecting the menu to appear bright irrespective of the picture settings but couldn't even tell if it had appeared. I haven't got a TFT and don't know too much about them - is this a known problem? I'm going to take a CRT monitor up later and plug that in and take it from there - any ideas? Thanks in advance - Carlos

this is a known issue. The vaccuum seal leaks and the picture goes screwy. Try squeezing the bottom corners of the monitor - not too hard! - this should restore the seal.
Maybe I'm wrong, but the previous answer sounds like utter gibberish to me. Most TFT screens have a swap-out warranty, so if your friend has only had the monitor for a couple of months, I would suggest that he contact the manufacturer.

It seems that the lcd creates the image on the screen and a backlight illuminates it(i've learnt something there) - sounds like the backlight's failed - unfortunately it's an expert repair job but it's under warrany though so thats ok - Cheers
sorry all, i didn't read the question properly. the squeezing thing is for LCD monitors!
