Shops Closed But Pubs Stay Open.

I've just read that although a lot of shops/supermarkets are closing, the pubs can stay open on the day of the funeral.
I can't make any sense of that.

Not sure how you can equate the pub with a church.
Don't think I've ever seen people falling blind drunk out of a church and having a punch up.

Your post would make sense if the Government was forcing shops to close and pubs to open but it is not. So your post makes no sense.

Do you only equate pubs with drunkeness and punch ups? I use pubs extensively and the last time I saw a punch up in one was probably ten years or more ago. Strangely I've witnessed a fight at a church since then - at a Christening no less.

Can I just say, it really doesn't affect me on a personal level whether shops, pubs or schools are open or shut.
It just seems unfair to me that some places are open and some are having to close and yes TTT they are being forced.
If a school is closed, then those parents who have to work that day are now forced to make alternative arrangements which isn't always easy.

Both are pillars in the community where people gather and congregate also in church they drink wine that is another similarity

No but if the shop closes the staff will be forced to not work. Self employed and zero hour contracts will get zilch.

It does make sense because people can meet in the pub and interact on the day, and watch it on pub tvs. The Queen would also have liked people to carry on.

0ur local town/pub/restaurant owner has invited anybody who lives alone to come down to the pub where there is a big screen. She is providing a free buffet lunch. I think that's great.
