(Note: This question has been put previousy a few years ago, but heyho we've probably got a different population here since it was last done.)
Mine was a Fiat 500 (499.5cc, not the modern version). It was pale blue. Here is a picture taken in 1966, my young step-brother and friend inside, Fido in front. Scanned from transparency, hence the blemish on the bonnet which is not on the car but comes from the transparency.
Mine was a Ford Zodiac in dark blue. was nice comfy car but as the speedo went up I could almost see the petrol gauge go down. Back to a Ford these days but it is much better on petrol.
Not my first but my favourite was a 1966 Vauxhall Victor 101 estate - big tank of a motor with a bench seat and column change. Being only 5' I had to have cushions on the seat to reach the pedals and steering wheel. Vic was two tone grey with a racing red oxide wing where a Hillman Imp tried to take me out. Followed by an Austin Cambridge estate called Bruce which was the longest British car made at the time. I did like a big motor!
They certainly don't make them like they used to and this thread has evoked some wonderful memories of cars like Zephyrs, Zodiacs, Victors, Consuls, Oxford and Cambridge, Cortinas - there is nothing to compare to them in the faceless boxes that are produced these days.
The zodiac also had a bench seat and column change. Was nice car but would have cost a fortune to put petrol in these days. I think it had around a 3 litre engine.
Being very short I found the column change much easier to manage as I didn't have to reach down like I did with a floor change. New vehicles with the higher gear sticks are easier for me, the floor changes gave me RSI in my shoulder every time I had to reach down to change gear.
A Dark Blue Ford Cortina I used to love driving around the Yorkshire moors in it, awesome motor for a 2.0 alas I don’t know what happened to it after it was stolen
