How awful for the parents who have lost their children to the Strep A infection. RIP little ones

Scarlet fever is doing the rounds and my manager and his 1 year old have it but both are recovering well. I was in the office and interacted with him on Tuesday, in meetings etc., but how easily is it spread?

Not sure about today (antibiotics and everything) but when I was young children were whisked off to an isolation 'fever hospital' if they caught it, because it was highly infectious. You probably have antibodies because you mixed with kids and got all the bugs when you were small.

I'm more worried about my son catching it, Jourdain. He's in secondary, year 8.

In that case, he's been around a bit, Tiggs, and probably has antibodies. It seems to be young children who never got all the normal bugs that whiz around, thanks to lockdown.

Very easily by sneezing, coughing and touch.

Everyone has had strepA infection sometime in their lives and haven't noticed or just had a sore thraot.

Very rareley, ..very very rarely is it serious progressinf to what is known as Scarlet fever.

It responds well to antibiotics.

I didn't know if Strep A and scarlet fever were the same thing or different strains of the same thing.

My son had "scarlet fever" at about 7, and I was told it was the name was more a collection of symptoms, than a diagnosis? He recovered well, but couldn't stay awake for a few days.

I wonder why this is happening so suddenly - or does it always happen but we just don't hear about it?

Naomi some are saying ( medical people) that because we had long lockdowns , children not mixing etc, that their immunity dropped dramatically

Well, Naomi, I believe lots of things are kept quiet by the govt. But that's another issue!

When the media get a big reaction to one story they hunt for similar stories that would otherwise not be reported. Jumping on the bandwagon.

We've seen the same with dogs biting children, animal cruelty, air fryers (the DM can't go a day without at least one air fryer story).

Could it be because of all the illegals streaming into our country?
