Since taking up residence in the US, Harry has traded on his royal status but with his book, 'Spare' - yet another whinge-fest allegedly - due out this week, how when all his angst against the royal family is finally exhausted and he has no more to tell, will he earn a living?

Just answering Naomi's original question in isolation, would it matter? If they don't become independent, then they'll be accused of leeching off their titles, it they do gain an independent lifestyle, anything they achieve will be because of their status. In short, they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
From Wiki:
"Celebrity is a condition of fame and broad public recognition of a person or group as a result of the attention given to them by mass media. An individual may attain a celebrity status from having great wealth, their participation in sports or the entertainment industry, their position as a political figure, or even from their connection to another celebrity. 'Celebrity' usually implies a favorable public image, as opposed to the neutrals 'famous' or 'notable', or the negatives 'infamous' and 'notorious'."

naomi, pay your money and take your pick. I imagine he will still earn a living as do many talentless "celebrities". Just look at the huge number of "influencers".

Such is the clamour of enough gormless people in this mad world.

I just read that Meghan is going to write a book about her experiences. :o(
nobody would care about either of these people if they weren't bad-mouthing the monarchy
agree Chowks - good wodge of sociology on Celebrity, distinguishing rich from rich n famous

and encompassing the awful - - "famous for being famous" - uuugh

and distinguishing Shipman as not a celebrity. It did NOT point out that 'fameux' means notorious in forrin. Opposite see

and on the above criteria the awful mogz is a celebrity like it or no
they'll be accused of leeching off their titles,

yeah what is the dook and duchess doing in the land of the free and not Mr and Ms Mountbatten-windsor-ponsonby goodbody smythe - that is with a Y and not smith

smiff den

commoner he is and commoner he shall be
he hur hur hur cant get much commoner
if they didn't want to partake in royal duties and thats such a hard job
cutting ribbons shaking hands luxery dining etc, why didn't they just do what edward did and take a backseat, i think it was all planned, to cash in and serve up the royal titles.
//I just read that Meghan is going to write a book about her experiences.//

Will that include Yachts?

Perhaps they could form an Only Fans page? With a Yacht.
Reading comments elsewhere and phone-ins on Jeremy Vine etc etc (which I've watched over the Xmas break, can be very entertaining) a fair proportion of people support H&M and think they've been wronged. My view is that those people only support them as they see them as a means to attempt to bring down the monarchy. Most anti-royalists will believe anything they say that bad mouths the royal family.
Not everyone. I am a vocal Republican but I have stated on here I dont think this is the way to do it.

However, you are correct, many anti Royalists do see it as a means to the end.
Well, I will buy the book and read it from cover to cover. I wonder how anyone, commenting or not on this thread would be happy reading the hated and name calling of themselves or family. Its mostly assumption from made up stories in the press.
The rubbish way the photos are distorted to suit the latest imagined story. One comes to mind that Kate is pregnant with a 4th child. All made up to sell a magazine it newspaper.
I have no time for Charles and Camilla but I'd not resort to name calling. Harry and Megan only wanted to do what other Royals do is 'work' for the queen and hold down a job to be independent.

and most monarchists will leap unthinkingly to the defense of the monarchy and besmirch anyone who presents it in a negative light...

that's the real reason people get so hot under the collar about harry and megan... all this talk about "betrayal" and whatnot is just hot air in my opinion
thisoldbird, the media to can take surprisingly different views on Kate and on Meghan.

"Not long to go! Pregnant Kate tenderly cradles her baby bump"
"Why can't Meghan Markle keep her hands off her bump?"

"Prince William gifted with an avocado for pregnant Duchess"
"Meghan Markle's beloved avocado linked to human rights abuse and drought"

All in the Mail. Funny old world.
