I would be more concerned about the long braids at the back, which like long plaits in European or Asian type hair could get caught up during games and I wonder if they would have reacted so safely if the symbol had been a cross not a heart. No reason for a uniform policy to say anything other than hair should be clean, tidy and a natural genetic colour

Goodness me. Have you forgotten when you were at school. It was commonplace to see girls sporting long hair?

When I was at school we were constantly made to tie our hair back, at least until 6th form and lengthen our skirts and remove any make-up and wear exact uniform but then we didn't have any ethnic background on which to form a basis for complaint. We were all treated the same mind you, that's why it's called uniform.

I am an advocate of the school uniform.

It seems those children which breach its standards more often than not, is down to the fault of the parent/s.

It looks like a very time-consuming thing to do, possibly taking hours to finish.
Time that might be better spent on schoolwork to help the wee soul get out from under the jackboot heel of her oppressors and do some good with her future career in what-evah.

So how about this for a silly decision, surely any decent smart coat will do so as long as the rest of the uniform ia school branded, I imagine the coat will be removed once in school and can be worn anywhere.

It's 'pick your battles, and work out when you can win - or not ...'

And thus is a battle she will lose all day every day.

Uniform is designed to ensure that no-one can disrupt by being a one-peron ego-fest, but most importantly, the disadvantaged pupils are nor identified by their parents' financial inability to keep up with trends in clothing, hairstyles, and so on.

You may see school uniform as a 'stupid rule', but many pupils give silent thanks for it, when they can fit in, and not be ostracised for not being expensively dressed.

I distinctly remember us on the last day at school, lining up on Bedford Bridge and throwing those stupid Panama hats in the river.

Uniforms are a good idea, but they should be simple and comfortable to wear and as long as hair is tidy there shouldn't be a problem.

Exactly jno! There were a few teachers that deserved that too! Schooldays were far from being the best days of my life. I did well at school but it was great to escape!
