I bought a bottle of Paul Newman's Balsamic Vinaigrette, whch I used to like. It tasted okay but its smell was OVERWHELMING and nasty. I had to throw it away. But two weeks later I still smell it everywhere. I've washed my clothes and myself but no luck. I assume it's lodged in my nose somewhere.

Has anyone got any tips for scouring out nostrils, or whatever is causing this?

Altered taste / smell can be a lingering aftermath of COVID.

thanks, LadyCG, I thought of that (and I did have Covid back in April, in the form of a mild cold). But it's not really altered - I'm just continuing to smell exactly what I smelt when I opened the bottle. It's not like dead fish syndrome, which needn't involve fish at all. This is a real smell, that refuses to go away.
That's happened to me. I think the brain sort of remembered the smell and then it turned into a habit of sorts. It happened with a tin of cat food! Eventually I forgot about it.
I've had this sort of problem since I had covid, over a year ago. It didn't appear for several months and has evolved and lessened, but is still there
Does coffee still taste and smell normal to you?
A similar thing happened to me many years ago after visiting Cadbury World. I could not get the horrific smell of Cocoa from my nose for months. It was over a year before I had fancied a bar of my beloved Flake again.

everything else tastes normal except for Paul Newman. I suspect they may have changed the recipe, as it seemed to taste a little different. But it was the sheer enormousness of the smell that got me. Maybe there was just something wrong with this particular bottle, like a rotten fruit.
i buy this fortnightly still the same lovely taste and smell to me
have you all checked the dates on the bottle,
Jno, he’s still in your house. Have you checked behind the sofa ?
You've got a noseworm, similar to an earworm
Seeing as he's dead now Anne,. I can imagine how badcthstvsmellnis!! ;0)
How bad that smell is!!
Maybe chase him away with something equally strong...but nicer.
I am confident that this is actually a delayed effect from covid. There was probably nothing wrong with the dressing.

A lot of people apparently had had this delayed effect on their sense of smell.

In my case it was probably three or four months after having it. All of a sudden the smell of fresh coffee in our house took on a nasty chemical smell, and I could smell it almost constantly. I began to notice it off the cat's food as well. (weird). I don't drink real coffee, unlike my family. However the instant coffee I normally drink began to taste unpleasant, and I had to give it up for several months.

Apparently covid does something to the nerves that convey messages about smells to the brain, and the damage takes some time to repair.

could well be it, Hopkirk. Regrettably, anne, a fingertip search has failed to find him on the premises
Did you check the chimney ?
anne, his name is Newman, not Flueman ;)
Better one of Paul Newman's than one of Gwyneth Paltrow's, LOL.
