my garden faces east but very slightly north also and it gets light until about three or four in the afternoon one side stays shaded throughout the day and the other is exposed to direct light i need some plant recommendations for both the shaded side and the side that gets sun please i am thinking nice wild flower style with some allium popping up through good for the bees
For the shaded side, maybe ferns, hostas, bergenias.
Sunny side. I planted some alliums last year, and they put on quite a show, how about some sunflowers to bring in the wildlife, some California poppies ?
My garden sounds very similar to yours. I've bought non-stop begonias for the last couple of years and they put on a lovely show and last for absolutely ages right up until the frosts. They seem to do well wherever I put them
with respect i had a look at those plants and they dont seem very trendy im thinking maybe wild grasses with alliums in between to add some height sunflowers are a good idea for the back maybe and the ferns are always nice i have some already which i will keep i am thinking some bamboo in replacement of a tree i want to get rid of on the shady side but then i am stuck for ideas so any are welcome but im thinking trendy things that arent too much maintenance
No idea what is trendy and what's not. On my shaded most of the day border except for early morning for a couple of hours, I have a Honeysuckle, some Hydrangeas, a couple of Acers and a Philadelphus. All doing OK after approx 8 years.
Margo I'm the same. I have to remind myself to feed them with some stuff to make them go blue. It does work. Can't remember what it's called, it's in the shed.
I have what I like and couldn't care less if they're trendy. What do trendy people do when plants are no longer trendy? Do you dig them up and chuck them away?
It’s very trendy to grow veg - set out a space in the sunny area to grow salad leaves, chard, runner beans and courgettes. All really easy, colourful and edible. Have adobe herbs to in raised bed maybe and some companion plants such as pot marigolds and nasturtiums.
