because they are allowed town leave at lunch time, it is seen as a reflection of the school when they are out and about.
although i hate the shirts she has to wear (ironing) they do look smart and are proud of the school. nice old fashioned values, respect for teachers etc......

My Son's school is all polo shirts and sweatshirts now, which is a shame as I like the old style shirt and v neck uniform.
When I see the poor excuses of uniforms that some of the kids wear to the local High School if I was their parent I would be ashamed to let them out of the house, girls with very very short skirts, nipped in the waist low cut 3/4 sleeve blouses, Faces full of makeup and earrings the size of the London Eye, well not quite that big but bigger than the allowed one pair of studs when I was at school ( not the one by me thank god!)
I like to see kids smart in the morning and I really don't think these girls should be parading what they have to offer in front of teachers and the general public.
It was only 11 years since I left so it's not like I'm talking about the dark ages.
Bring back the old standards and the respect of the 80's/ 90's or things will get a lot worse then they already are.

Dreadful, awful idea, school uniforms. They cost poorer families a fortune, poor kids have to wear richer kids cast offs so they stick out a mile, it's all teachers ever seem worried about and it looks absurd. Kids do their best to get around it and end up looking a mess and imho the only discipline kids should need is self discipline, no amount of some harassed teacher yelling at them to do their top button up/tuck their shirt in etc is going to give them that, just an unhealthy dislike for people who should be mentoring their education.Get rid of it.
to be honest Nox, I dont think thats true. I think uniform helos kids look similar, casual clothes are gonna make kids look poorer. They have to wear something, this year, I got j 4 pairs of trousers for 1 tenner, 4 polo shirts for 4 quif and 2 sweatchirts from the school form 12 quid. PE kit shoes and a coat and bag cost no more than 40 quid all together and I havent had to buy new this year for those items.
Sorry nox I agree with most things you say, but not this, it has been proven that when you get comprehensive schools scrapping school uniform the rich kids wear designer clothes and the poor kids look less well off, uniform has the advantage of creating identity and levelling things off, I think you said you home educate your children, was that one of the reasons, anyway best wishes tou you and yours
The only discipline kids need is self-discipline???
I don't agree with you at all.
It's tough that kids have to wear uniform, but life is tough and they will have to learn about the trials and tribulations of living within certain rules. This is part of growing up and being a grown up. Otherwise we have anarchy.
Yes it is tough on the poorer families when school uniforms for particular schools have to bought from certain shops, but then aren't the parents able to choose the school to a certain extent?
It creates a sense of uniformity, and says to the local community, these are OUR kids in OUR uniforms and we are proud of them. Similarly I have a dress code at work which emphaises that we are a professional organisation. If I didn't agree or like that then I would have to leave. Tough.
Perhaps school uniform should be cottton wool with angel wings and a 4x4 chariot?
