I have a one year old son and am expecting my second child in May next year. Does anyone have any idea if I am going to have to buy a double buggy as my son will be 20 months old when the next is (hopefully) born? Also, at 20 months old will he be old enough to go into a single bed with a side-bar on it or will he still need a cot?
Thankyou

Hi, Mini Boo is 22 months old and still needs the pram, so I'd say yes, you'll need a double buggy.

She's also still in a cot- mind you it's a cot bed so slightly bigger than a normal cot.

congrats on your pregnancy- boy are you going to be rushed off your feet soon!
Instead of buying a double buggy, you could buy a smaller lightweight buggy for your eldest and then buy something called a buggy connector which means you should be able to attach that to your baby's pram - not sure if they're widely available. You can also buy things called buggy boards which also clip onto prams and your older child stands on it, inbetween you and the pram - not sure from what age they are suitable though.
my eldest was 20 months when number 2 child turned up and i needed a double. she wasnt old enough to walk the long distances we did and still needed a snooze if we were out all day.
mind you, it got used a lot as number 3 turned up when number 2 was 24 months so i got my monies worth out of it.
oh and i had 2 cots for a while as well, until number 3 needed it.
I got a double buggy when my youngest son was born, and my elder son was two and a half. I got a tandem one though (seats behind eachother instead of side by side) as they fit in shops etc so much easier. I got mine second hand from an advert in the post office window I think.
Hi, There is a great new buggy out, Phil and Ted, where one baby sits behind the other, it suits a baby and toddler brilliantly. Best I have ever seen.My daughter in law has one, kids are now 6mth and 2 years old. Easy to push, she also purchased as an extra., a cover similar to a rain cover, it is a sun cover which they can see through but it keeps the harmful sun rays away from kids. Well worth a look.

There is a 5 point safety harness on each seat, and a peekaboo sunroof so that both children can take in their surroundings as they travel. A padded headrest provides comfort for your babies, while a reversible handle makes it easier for you.

Thank you so much for all those helpful replies!! I think I'll be investing in a double buggy but I'll wait til nearer the time. Thanks again x
I would suggest it depends how much you walk about and how quickly you want to get there! (ie. can you cope with walking at the speed of your 2 year old!) My first two are about the same age gap and we bought a double which we used quite a lot initially, but also invested in a buggy board which we used with the light-weight buggy from about 6 months (baby no 2). From that point, we didn't use the double hardly at all.
As for the cot and bed situation, we moved my eldest into a bed just before he was 2. he was absolutely fine in it, but took to coming in during the night and early in the morning, saying he was ready to go downstairs. With my 3rd on the way (my 2nd will be 2.5 in theory when 3rd is born), we are buying a new cot for the new baby and my 2nd will be remaining in her cotbed with the sides on for the foreseeable future (unless she starts climbing out) - I don't want to encourage the same thing to happen again! Good luck!
