Thatcher did nothing for the good of the country. She did things that benefitted a small minority by using her vindictiveness. Everyone laughed at Scargill when he said there would be 100 pit closures and 50,000 job losses under Thatcher. She used the Army to quell the strikes, squaddies dressed in police uniforms, who were handsomely paid.
Having said that, I've never been keen on strike action, as much as I sympathised with the miners, steel workers etc. I always felt that the argument was lost, the minute there was strike action. There were other measures that could have been taken. But it's history now and we live with the dreadful legacy of Thatcher, right-to-buy, privatisation among them. I say again, good riddance to bad rubbish.
