Loved this programme when it first started. The early series were a perfect showcase of a variety of craftsmanship, expertise and interesting objects but this latest afternoon series shows very little of the actual repairs.
I know there are alternatives but they haven't grabbed me in the same way as the original Repair Shop.

Well, that's one opinion Bazz.
I wonder how that would work insuring items in transit from and to the barn and at the restorers' home workshops? More cost for the BBC? You can see various stages of repair on the items and then see one expert enlist the help of another entailing handing over the items or parts thereof. It is obvious that sometimes items are restored over quite a period of time but I put that down to resourcing pieces and/or availability of individual restorers.
I haven't watched Repair Shop for many a long day. Most of the BBC shows have to have a sob story or a presenter who does the regulation piece of showboating, ie, can I have a go at that? No thanks.
I don’t like sob stories either. We all have sob stories, and people just don’t want to hear them do they?

choux, I'm sure transporting and insuring the items would be cheaper than transporting the experts and putting them up in hotels for the duration of filming.
barry, you could write to the Radio Times and ask them.

Well, well, well. I am covered in embarrassment but will own up.
I thought the programme I watched that prompted this post was the start of a new series - it was broadcast on Monday afternoon. This morning I realised my recording box hadn't recorded any more episodes so looked in to it.
This half an hour episode with the silver magnifying glass was episode 12 of series 2! I should have realised when I noticed Jay's teeth were not in the condition they are in more recent series.

Obviously my memory has left me down - not only did I not remember the items I thought it was a dreadful new format.
I'm going back to bed.
