Tomorrow Is ...
June 6, and we all know what happened on that day in 1944 in Normandy.
In 2023 another D day approaches, and while there is nothing other than superstition to suggest the balloon may go up in Ukraine in that day, when it DOES go up, the Russians will face a force of 35 combat brigades, 2 special forces regiments, 1 air assault regiment, 52 rifle battalions, 2 pontoon regiments, 6 artillery brigades, whole bunch of air defense, engineer, reconnaissance, drone, and logistic units... while another 86 brigades hold the rest of the front. These 86 brigades are backed by 9 artillery brigades and lots and lots of combat support units.
Ukraine has now more than twice the number of brigades the US Army had at the end of the Cold War.
For some reason I have always fancied 18 June, I don't know why. When it does happen we'll hear about it first from the Russians I suspect. There'll almost certainly be nothing from the home team.
Meanwhle the Russians themselves are gradually losing control of the border area of their Belgorod region to armed insurgents.
Sorry, no links supplied, but they seem to be becoming old hat :-)

Lol right on cue: the BBC loves Russian press releases it seems.
Yesterday Russia launched a push in the NE Zaporizhzhya-SW Donetsk area and were supposedly pushed back, with Ukraine retaking a couple of villages and continuing to advance. Russia has been claiming the offensive has started for a while now. Every time there is any sort of Ukrainian aggression.

I'm sure the Ukrainians will be playing the long game, keep the Russians on high alert for ages, many of the conscripts not sleeping right, much vodka consumed by the Russians. Then bam, multi pronged attack when they are worn down.
June the 6th would be tempting but no doubt the Russians would be expecting it so, as I said above, make some sabre rattling set them on edge but dont do it.

“go get em VZ!”
There’s two VZ’s of course. The one here will be the main man :-)
There is definitely something happening.
Mariupol was blasted by UK storm shadow missiles over the past weeks and there were “booms” in Volnovakha which is a destroyed, occupied Ukrainian town on the main road from Donetsk to Mariupol

Storm shadow missiles I would think are ideally suited to strategic attacks: taking out command posts etc. They would not be a weapon used on the battlefield.
The timing of the arrival of the F16s is unfortunate, as is that of the Abrams tanks. Both should have been in theatre by now.
Everything else, I think, is ready to go: I think the Swedish IFVs only arrived fairly recently. Those are pretty powerful motorised assets.
The russian MOD statement, like most of them, is almost certainly rubbish, but who knows.

Well yes and no. For new equipment they wont have it hence why I wondered if some of the recent release of weapons were 'target practice'
Sadly many Ukrainian lives will be lost in any offensive. It will be no walk in the park as Russia will throw everything they can at them in some sort of attempt to save face.

Perhaps Ukraine should wait a couple of weeks?

The key battle of this war was fought on the first day: that's when elite Russian paratroopers landed at Hostomel military airfield north of Kyiv and took control of the airbase, where they hoped to land thousands of ground troops to seize the capital.
As soon as I heard that the Ukrainians had retaken that base I knew the Russians would never succeed. As marauding Russian special forces entered the city, largely using commandeered Ukrainian military vehicles, and those sleeper agents who had not been previously eliminated by Ukrainian special forces, attempted to storm the presidential compound Biden, not unreasonably, offered Zelelnsky an escape route,Zelensky refused, and from that point the west was onboard with the winning side.
Zelensky announced a 3-day curfew during which anyone on the streets would be deemed to be an enemy agent. This smoked out the last of the Russians in the city and they commenced a doomed attempt to encircle the city.

Meanwhile our Courageous friends in the Ukraine are running a campaign of their own at the moment.
