...surely we can give councils the power to move these animals on quicker. They leave carp everywhere and steal anything that's not nailed down and for good measure this time they've vandalised the pavilion. Scum.

These people are detritus, sub-human, irredeemable scum of The highest order. I’ve told this story before but it’s worth telling again, a few years ago we had these utter scum make camp at my rugby club. It took us two weeks to get shot of them, but in that two weeks they robbed the club, the local shops and pubs had to close because of violence and intimidation ,...

retro: "The fact of the matter is the police are scared of them. " - I wondered how long it would take for someone to say that, I am sad that it is you retro. Plod ain't scared of them, they are scared of the Trobiscites that defend them. If they were able to act they'd go mob handed and tooled up with all the gear and game over.
My hatred of these scum started when I was 14.
I lived on the border of Sidcup and Chislehurst and a mate of mine lived in Footscray. In Footscray there’s a big travellers site at Crittalls Corner, and at the time they were known for stealing dogs.
My mate’s dog went missing and we made the mistake of going to the entrance of the site and we could see his dog roped-up outside a caravan, and we said to the bloke at the entrance, who was acting like a sentry, that my mate wanted his dog back. The dog was going nuts seeing my mate. We, two 14 years olds, were pinned up against a wall and threatened with knives.
The police weren’t interested, it was a no-go area for them (so nigh on 40 years later nothing’s changed with the police not doing anything), and that was the last my mate saw of his dog.
He still talks about that nasty episode.
I hate these people with a passion.

Over 50 years ago there was a 'Gypsy Wedding' on the Green just below our house. It was not a nice week. They used the bottom of our garden as a toilet. The council put a 'Chemmy loo' in place for them.
On the night of the wedding itself, it was riotous and there was a police cordon along the roads. I walked out to watch (I was in my teens) and I was standing next to a police sergeant. We both watched a man approach the council-supplied toilet and deliberately set it on fire.
In my innocence I accosted the Sergeant 'You saw that, aren't you going to do anything about it?' He just looked at me and asked 'Do you want a full scale riot?' Nothing was, therefore done.
So it's not a recent thing. We used to get traveller kids in school occasionally. They were all well-behind educationally, but generally behaved OK for a couple of weeks - after that was different.
They've been a problem for a long time in other words.

I remember as a child being quite excited to see the romany gypsy guy who used to come to our area. He had a horse drawn caravan and used to tie up next to the road. The problems started when Ireland changed their trespass laws from being a civil offence to a criminal offence. So all of their dregs came to the UK.
They treat ‘gadjas’ (non g*pos) with utter disrespect. One of my friends used to go on a site to do the women’s hair. Domestic violence is the norm and she often had clients with black eyes and worse. There is so much the authorities could do without playing the racist card ( hello, they are not a ‘race anyway) why don’t they do it? Tax evasion for a starter…..
