Duvet

Just about two or 3 months ago I bought a new duvet - down and feather 13.5 tog. Now I have bought these years ago and they were quite lightweight. Just after making my bed and must say the duvet is very heavy and expensive.

I am looking for a lightweight duvet - I do know men can handle the heavy ones but I can't - any help please. Thanks

I can't see why she would object to cleaning the inside of your kitchen cupboards, JJ. It is cleaning, after all.

that's what sister says too but I do only have another two cupboards to do so will get them done over the next few days.

I have my duvets laundered at the dry cleaners.

Our summer 4.5 tog is so light it ends up on the floor most nights and it takes a wee bit of work to get it into the corners of the cover.
Warm when it's on though. :-)

No I am too independent. Yes I do have a fabulous male neighbour who has helped loadsa times but I don't like asking him all the time

I came across this from WHICH...2 supposedly foolproof methods. I intend to try one when I change my duvet in a few days.
As for duvet weight, mine is a 4.5. I had heavier ones and hated them. I just add and subtract throws when it's cold, and I've got an under bed electric blanket.

Those methods look like a right faff. I put the cover flat on the bed, not inside out. I concertina the open end up towards the top.
Then I put the duvet flat on the bed, put the top in to the top of the concertina'd cover then pull the cover down. It does involve walking round the bed a couple of times but it works. No lifting, no climbing in to the cover, no faff.

I couldn't do with all this duvet faffing about. Give me my cotton blankets any day. Easy Peasy.

I never did really understand the difference the difference between a duvet (continental quilt as the oldsters call it) and an eiderdown, except one goes in a cover and the other doesn't.
Maybe it's because duvets hang over the sides and bottom of the bed and a traditional eiderdown doesn't

Believe it, or not, I use the roll method. It takes longer, and you do sort of improve the process the more times you do it. I struggle to 'throw' the duvet it the air so the roll method works brilliantly (even with a 10•5tog). When I strip the bed I turn the duvet cover inside out, and wash and dry it that way.

my neighbour is simply wonderful. Just grabs the two ends and shakes it and that's it. My arms are too short for that.

What are cotton blankets. Do you need a whole lot or does one blanket do also how do you clean them
