Rationalisation.
It depends what you are jealous / envious about, and your individual way of dealing with these feelings.

Talking it over helps.

I am sort of asking about another person that I just can't rationalise
When I read the heading .. was going to say aqua aerobics at the Pool!!!
I honestly never get jealous or envious, I just don’t, can’t see the point.
You don't. It is for the person who is jealous or envious (and in my view they are two different things) to work it out. Very destructive character traits that one who is subject to will find it difficult to cope with. Can you give more information?
As Barmaid says, jealousy and envy are two very different things.

For example, if I see a report that someone has won a massive amount on the National Lottery, I might well envy that person but I'll not have any negative feelings towards them.

On the other hand if someone stole my girlfriend away from me, while I might envy him for having her, it's likely that I'd also feel strong negative feelings towards him. It in situations like that, when envy is overlaid with negativity, that it then becomes jealousy.

Actually though, while I may have envied many people in my life, I don't think that I've ever really felt true jealousy towards anyone. I'm the sort of person who can simply shrug their shoulders, taking whatever life throws at me and simply saying "C'est la vie!".

So I'm possibly not the best person to be answering your question,Jennyjoan!
Envy is felt when someone has something you'd like.
Jealousy is felt when someone has taken something/someone away from you.
Nearer home: jealousy is when someone has said something on AB cleverer than you did.
Hmm christ that is a rare emotion

and envy is when someone on Ab you cant bear, has managed to string three words together ( v rare)

joke joke - all that was a joke...
“Every time a friend succeeds, I die a little,” said Gore Vidal. That's true for too many.

Erwin Chargaff told Crick and Watson what the correct configuration for bases were ( enol, technically) 1951. This allowed them to solve DNA (unlocked the solution) and get Nobel prizes. He said he should have been included. He lived for about 50 y after , and allowed it to absolutely wreck his career.

Fagen and Becker came up with many gems, among them:

Everywhere around me
I see jealousy and mayhem
Because no men have all their peace of mind
To carry them
I've never felt jealous. If someone does or has something amazing, it inspires and drives me. If my mate is going on a holiday of a lifetime I would probably ask her 20,000 questions and want to see every photograph and if I wanted to go myself, I would work my backside off to achieve it. I truly admire people who do well in life and never begrudge those better off than myself.

There is way too much jealously on here, in the workplace, down the local pub, in your street and everywhere you turn. There are those who hate "privilege" (wealthy Tories, Royalty, etc) and those who will tell all their friends that they're going on a fabulous holiday or going for an expensive dining experience, but when you post / report something similar you're either bragging or trying to be better than everyone else. People of that mindset are just bitter.

And why do people whom you've never met before look you up and down, whisper in the friends' ears and give you filthy looks? It's only women who do this, but why? Is it an intimidation tactic? It's always baffled me.
I see them being very much the same.
