What's Rishi Sunak On !
Sunak has rejected claims that the Tories are already accepting Election Defeat. And says he is all fired up about winning a full term. I think I...We the Tories have achieved a lot over the last eight months.
....Think he means since he has been PM ?....And now we are starting to see the fruit of our hard work.

The incompetent Tory government are just stumbling from disaster to disaster of their own making – not only that, they don’t know how to fix the disasters. There’s no chance of them calling a general election this year with the way things are, they must be hoping for some miracle next year.

Gulliver, as I wrote on another post some time ago, for 25 years I lived in a constituency that was mostly held by Conservatives, with Liberal in second place and Labour a poor third. During that time I was a member of the Labour party and would knock on doors to be greeted with polite rejection of my plea for people to vote Labour. I attended meetings right up until Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader. I objected to the way that Corbyn was directing the party and said so at meetings. Because of this I was verbally abused because of my views. I then decided it was time to leave the party that I had worked so hard to support. When Starmer was elected I thought about rejoining the party but cannot in all honesty agree with the way that he conducts himself. When it comes to election time I will decide who to vote for.
But for you to suggest that I have joined the Con club once agin shows your thinking, that being anybody who disagrees with you must be a Conservative.
As I said I left the Labour party because of verbal abuse and it makes me wonder who those Labour supporters remind of.

//When the Tories were in a coalition government with the Lib/Dems they set a 4 year fixed term for parliament (general elections) – sometime later the Tories changed it back to 5 years,…//
Just a point of correction: the Fixed Term Parliament Act set the date of a General Election as the first Thursday in May in the fifth year after the previous GE. One was due in the fourth year only if the previous GE was before the first Thursday in May. So generally, the FTPA provided for a five year Parliament.
It was introduced as a sop to the LibDems so as to provide them with at least a whole Parliament with the spare keys to No.10. Without it is very likely that Mr Cameron would have called an early GE in order to secure an overall majority and end the Coalition.
As it transpired, the Act proved not to be worth the paper it was written on. Only one General Election (in 2015) was held under its normal terms. The 2017 GE was held under one of the terms in the FTPA that permitted an early election (two-thirds of the Commons required to support a motion to dissolve Parliament).
In 2019 the Prime Minister introduced Early Parliamentary General Election Act 2019 which circumvented the FTPA and enabled a General Election to be called and in 2022 the FTPA was repealed entirely.
It’s interesting that in 2019 the then Prime Minister was castigated for his attempts to dissolve Parliament and call an election. Now the current Prime Minister is being castigated for not doing so. I suppose it depends what you think the outcome of a GE will be.
