You really think TwitFace represents "the electorate" or know what the tories think?

I don't know, SP.  Your link isn't working.

They do. They have been caught numerous times making stuff up.

//  The secretary for energy and net zero has been called out in a car crash interview for referencing a non-existent ‘meat tax’ in her speech at the Tory Party conference.

MP Claire Coutinho used her speech on Tuesday to chastise the apparent vegetable loving Labour Party by accusing them of taxing meat. However, this quickly backfired during an interview later that day when she was brought back to reality and reminded that there is no meat-tax.

During her speech Coutinho said: “It’s no wonder Labour seem so relaxed about taxing meat, Keir Starmer doesn’t eat it and Ed Miliband is clearly scarred by his encounter with a bacon sandwich.”

In an interview with Sophie Ridge on Sky News, the interviewer asked incredulously: “You didn’t write that did you?” //

Labour have never said they will tax meat. The accusation is made up.

Most of the electorate are fed their ideas by Red Top 'news'papers, GB News etc, and websites like Guido Fawkes. Their grasp of the overall political landscape is gained from biased headlines and soundbites. In other words, they're generally correct.

The link isn't to an opinion piece by someone on Twitter. It's a link (albeit failed - ta webbo3) to an interview with Victoria Derbyshire where she asks about three specific claims made by the Conservatives - all of which are nonsense.

...and easily proven to be nonsense.

So why do it???

Don't they realise we have access to Google???

Politicians of all persuasions think the electorate are gullible.  Mr Stamer tells us some women have penises and expects us to believe it.

The very fact that we vote for these people suggests most of us are gullible.

Exactly, Vulcan. It's an oxymoron.

Frome the horses mouth:

https://labourlist.org/2023/09/our-research-shows-voters-want-to-cut-meat-consumption-labour-policy-must-reflect-this/

"‘Our research shows voters want to cut meat consumption. Labour policy must reflect this’" - to how do you cut consumption of anything? Yep you tax it. They haven't said that directly but that is the policy. Nothing to see here.

TTT

No...it's from a stable across the road. Not the "horse's mouth".

If you click on the 'about us' link, you'll see the following:

"Launched in 2009, we [Labourlist] are supportive of the Labour Party, but independent of it and see ourselves as a “critical friend”.

Sooo...not Labour Party party policy. Or indeed any proposed policy.

A suggestion.

naomi24 - I'm going to have to shut you down because this thread is about three specific Sunak liees and your point falls under the umbrella of 'whataboutism'. The quesion standa - why do the Tories think the electorate are gullible?

We can all fact check!

I can see one or two other posts here that don't directly address your issue with the Tories, SP.  Are you going to shut their authors down too - or do you just object to a valid comparison to a leading Labour politician?

"Why do the Tories think the electorate are gullible?"

And you the the Labour parties (and various other also-rans) think differently?

They are all politicians doing what their parties tell them to do without a single original thought in their heads. The electorate will get screwed over whoever is in power .... as usual.

No - because you're the only one whose indulging in a bit of whataboutism.

TTT was entirely wrong (and I've pointed that out).

youngmafbog got the wrong end of the stick, which is fair because my link wasn't working.

Everyone else answered the question directly.

who's not 'whose'.

"And the Labour parties (and various other also-rans) think differently?"

Keyboard ran amok!

SP, you need to read the posts again. - but that aside, I'll address your question directly.  I agree with Vulcan and Quizmaster.

To be fair, the electorate are pretty gullible.

Gullible and I'll informed. Answerbank is an anomaly (mainly).

People get most of their political education from comics such as the Mail, Express, Sun (and sadly I have to include the Telegraph to that list.)

They are skewed sources, and the masses end up voting for Boris because he has been presented to them as the new messiah - when really he was a false prophet.
