Whats The Point In Buying And Owning A...

I recently took some waste mixed earth and gravel to the local recycling centre expecting to pay to get rid of it, but i was told that the earth and stones should be segregated and i will have to pay about £9. My opinion is that if recycling was free they would get more done and probably be less fly tipping. Opinions please.
Recycling centres or otherwise known as the Tip, are run by councils. Unfortunately our council Tax is collected by central government, so I understand. Then allocated to said council. Therefore the council has to subsidise recycling centres accordingly. So inevitably we will pay twice for something that should be, but isn't included in our taxation. Fly tipping, though execrable will occur because many cannot, or will not pay twice for disposing of their rubbish. Council should maybe negotiate a better response from government.
Naomi, I am with you on that. The lanes round here are frequently used for fly tipping. Most of the stuff dumped can be dumped for free at the local recycling facility. Makes my blood boil. I do not understand the mentality of people who will drive down a pretty country lane and then dump a mattress, fridge and bags of stuff.
The problem is tax. Tax has to be paid on rubbish hence the huge cost of skips. And this can get more depending on wht you are dumping. Plasterboard now needs its own skip and costs more, any electrical the same. And then of course we get to the nasty stuff like asbestos and oil - and fridges.
And this is why developers dont want to develop brownfield sites.
