The first episode of this four-part series will air on Monday 9 October on BBC One.   When news of this account of his life was first published I said I wouldn't watch but I think I will - if I can stand it.  How about you?

Ellipsis, I was very upset when he died as I only knew the person who raised a lot of money for charity.

Not everybody knew what he had been up to.

I finished watching last night.  What an excellent programme.  A truly horrifying subject so sensitively handled, the final scene his lonely grave, stripped of the flamboyant headstone that extolled his vitues.  Ironic that a devil such as he should be born on Halloween.

Just watched the series, and I thought Steve Cougan was superb. 

He had all the mannerisms and vocal infections,  and he 'aged' wonderfully in the final episode.

 

SC used to voice the Savile puppet in Spitting Image, and there was  subtle but highly effective difference from then, when the voice was an aural caricature, to now, when he played the part as an actor, with more nuance anddifference and subtlety. 

I thought a hugely difficult subject was written and acted with sensitivity, and it was a good job by all involved. 

The book 'Hiding In Plain Sight' is horrific reading, but very well researched and written.

I would have liked the last episode to be about what happened after he died.

How did it finally become public knowledge, who blew the whistle?

What happened to his properties and his money?

Did he know it would all become public knowledge?

Lots of questions left unanswered.
