Similar idea to ToraToratoraIf 58 = 8-5-1=2  and  42= 2+4-1=5then:A = 52 = 2+5-1=6B = 42 =2+4-1 =5C = 49 =9-4-1=5D = 60 =0+6-1 =5E = 49=9-4-1=4F = 56 =6-5-1=0But the problem is there are other methods and solutions too. For example, the rule may be if the second digit is smaller, then find the difference and add3, or double the difference and add one. But I still...

Thank you for all the answers I think newmodarmy may have the correct one.

Yes elliemay, sorry- I got it right for E

Sayrah please note my typing error for C.

But I really don't think it's right; I could have come up with other equally valid solutions.

It's the sums of the values of the letters of the alphabet for numbers in words

ONE       34
TWO      58
THREE   56
FOUR     60
FIVE       42
SIX         52
SEVEN    43
EIGHT     49
NINE      42

So then,

6 = 52
5 or 9 = 42
8 = 49
4 = 60
8 = 49
3 = 56

Could be a coincidence since 49 appears twice and 42 could be 5 or 9 (unless my maths is wrong)

Correction

ONE       34
TWO      58
THREE   56
FOUR    60
FIVE     42
SIX       52
SEVEN  65
EIGHT   49
NINE    42

A=6 B=9 C=8 D=4 E=8 F=3

( I think...)

Excellent work, thecorbyloon. I haven't checked it but I'm sure that's how to do it.  I still think the question is a bit odd though as B could be 5 or 9, and why is 49 in twice?
