How are our own borders going since we took back control. Have we stopped the boats yet?

No and neither has the EU.  We have, however, stopped free access to almost 500 million people, so all in all, not bad.

Schengen has not ended.. the UK is now a third country.

Whoever the 'we' is that claim a victory of some sort YOU have prevented free access of around 67 million citizens to the EU.

Well done you!!

Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania and the United Kingdom are EU states that are not, or not yet, part of the Schengen area. This means that a flight from one of these states to a Schengen state is regarded as an external flight and is subject to border checks.

On 31 January 2020 at midnight, when the Withdrawal agreement entered into force, the United Kingdom left the European Union and became a third country.

A country that is not a member of the European Union as well as a country or territory whose citizens do not enjoy the European Union right to free movement , as defined in Art. 2(5) of the Regulation (EU) 2016/399 (Schengen Borders Code).

not bothered about eu countries, plenty of other places to visit or just stay in the uk and spend my money, unless you have property there who gives a fig, it's going to fall apart anyway, it's already started, poland and hungry will be the first to dump it, the rest will follow...then it's just germany and france.
