Yes!!
Depends where you are travelling from. Any more information?
You didn't last time I went. But you did need official photo id. Passport or driving licence
you dont need a passport but you do need some offical type of identity so a passport is the best thing
It depends how you are getting there. Technically, you just need photo ID (I assume you're British) but some airlines insist on a passport.
Always carry a passport when you leave the country. If it was N.Ireland I don't think you would need it, but rest of Ireland, yes.
Very true. If you live in Northern Ireland, you don't need anything, just drive down the road.

If you are holding a british passport and are travelling from the UK, technically NO. However as all airlines now ask for photographic ID on routes, passports are usually carried by passengers.

Just one thing to be careful of though, there is a random checkpoint at dublin airport by Garda Siochana, so best to carry it just in case.
If you are travelling by Ferry, say from Holyhead, you would not be asked for a passport or photo ID.
If you are a British citizen you do not require a passport to travel to Dublin from the U.K. as it is part of the Common Travel Area. Similarly, I (as an Irish citizen) do not need a passport to travel to the U.K.

The Common Travel Area is a historical artifact and is due to the fact that following independence of twenty-six of Ireland's counties from the United Kingdom in 1922, no laws were passed requiring a passport for travel across the new border.

I live near the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (part of the U.K.) and I criss-cross the border regularly unhindered.

However, if you are flying, the airline will probably insist on photographic I.D., (usually a passport or driving licence)
