Locust is a Jehovah's Witness.  They don't celebrate Christmas.

We have a Kingdom Hall about  1/4 mile away, built about 20 years ago.  To this day we have only had one visit from them and there is very little housing in the area.

There is no proof of anything written in the bible.

Like all fervents, you simply cherry-pick the bits that suit what you think, and ignore the rest, or decry it as 'untrue'.

Jesus the Son of God was born as a baby. Personally i dont care if was 25 December or any other day. Christmas means Emmanuel, God is with us. It means God coming into our world

It's a strange time of year anyway: for 364 days we tell our kids not to speak to strangers. Then for one night we get them all excited about an old man coming down the chimney and sneaking into their bedroom ...

Let's be honest with ourselves we all wish to know .if there is a creator or not but when you look around and see all the wonderful things which goes on in creation. And the Marvellous many of stars in the sky how they rotate how they stay in place .you cannot say nobody created those things, it's like walking through woods. And then come and across a house which has been built. And you look up and say there's a house for me. You don't enquire, who it belongs to, or where it comes from, from the beginning, therefore someone had to create it or make it or build it, only logic, tells you, that, someone had to build it, there is a supreme being in the sky or in the heavens directing and keeping things in Motion

Locust - Your analogy does not stand up to even casual scrutiny.

I know what a house is, where they come from, how they are made - there is no element of mystery whatsoever. 

The same cannot be said of the universe. Just because it is vast and complex does not automatically mean that 'someone created it' - that is wishful thinking to prop up your belief. 

Imagining something doesn't make it real, if it did, unicorns would roam the earth.

Let's be honest with ourselves. Of couse we can say that nobody needs to have made it. It is explained more and more, as we uncover more understanding, by natural phenomena. Actual design by some intelligent entity has been shown an unnecessary complication a long time ago. Only those who are incredulous insist on refuting that because they refuse to believe the evidence and desperately point to anything yet explained as justification for their scepticism.

Simplistic me is not going to get complicated over this - I understand about adapting pagan festivals, uncertainty as  to the exact bithdate of Jesus etc.. It doesn't matter - it is a  celebration of God coming into our world; a light in the darkness etc..  You don't have to be religious to celebrate goodness in any form and millions of non-religious people recognise this and celebrate Christmas accordingly.  Certainly the Muslim pupils in schools I've taught in celebrated Christmas.

Whatever; I've spent the last 2 Sundays playing organ in a crowded little 11th Century church - very many people I've never seen before.  The happiness and good spirit engendered has been palpable - can't be bad.

Locust  - You are doing what every fervent of any faith does - bending your religious text to fit what you want to believe.

It can, and is, done in dozens of ways.

Eastern psychopaths twist to Koran to excuse murdering non-believers, it's easy, absolutely anyone else can do it with any book.

Mark Chapman used 'Catcher In The Rye' to motivate him to murder John Lennon, it's easy, anyone can do it.

But doing doesn't make it fact. It makes it what you want to believe.
