Dogs sense of smell

Dogs can sense odors at concentrations nearly 100 million times lower than humans can apparently! so why is it when you can smell dog poo 100 yards away, your dog has to stick his nose in it to smell it?

Do you remember a TV programme where people were asked to nominate things they could do such as recognise cars just by their lights, or by the sound of the door shutting?
I reckon I could go on there and tell you what a dog had eaten by the colour/consistency of its poo!
Having had dogs for ***** number of years and had boarding kennels, and always been the one responsible for picking up at the end of dog shows, I have become an expert in the art of recognising all manner of poo.
After all its only re-cycled dog food! (And it only becomes dog food when you feed it to a dog!).
