mondeo wont switch off

mondeo turbo diesel wont switch off on key .all lights work on ignigtion and go out when key turned off told it was stop solenoid got a second hand one as ford wanted 143 pounds new car still does not switch off any ideas thanks car is 1997

With the engine running and ignition off disconect the stop solenoid, if the engine keeps running then the secondhand solenoid could be faulty or the fuel cut off valve in the pump could be stuck open. If the engine stops after disconecting the stop solenoid then the fault is in the wiring or key switch and the solenoid is getting a constant feed from the battery.
sometimes with a car that has a turbo you have to wait for a period of time with the engine running with the car in a staionary position before the car will turn itself off
