should it be reintroduced? Personally I cant make my mind up.On the one hand there is always the possability that innocent people get executed but on the other hand how many childrens lives are ruined at the hands of convicted pedophiles who are let loose time & again?
As an ex guest of Her Majesty, i have known quiet a few people that would have swung 50 yrs ago but on the whole (contrary to popular belief) these people WERE sorry for what they had done (crimes of passion type thing). Then you get the smackheads who mug an old woman and think that they are gangsters, and continue to do the same thing.Execute this scum I think. (unless there is any REAL evidence of wanting to change)

Give them nothing, other than plenty of THINK TIME to realise why they were put behind bars in the 1st place, at present its Butlins behind bars.
Even tho i agree with certain exceptions for the Death penalty, This is not a deterant, it would be an easy way out for thos who commit the most horrendous of crimes, and it WOULD'NT reduce Murders & Rapist & Pedeophiles, just see what goes on still in the USA with crimes and Death penaltys, not much of a reduction you will notice.
i would like to see sentences like for example,
The judge says to a pedeo who molested a child, you will serve 15 years hard labour, with no chance of remission, no perks etc like TV's & Radios, and at the end of your sentence, i'll let you know, if the child who you molested is in a forgiving mood otherwise your stay behind bars until they decide to forgive you.
It MIGHT just register with some of these pedeos/Seriel killers etc in their brains before they commit these horrendous crimes, tho i would'nt hold your breath

laurence2, would you really wish it on a paedophile's victim to have to go through being approached 15 years on to make a decision and take responsibility for what should happen to him? Do you not think we have been through enough??? Would you seriously want your daughter having to relive everything again had she been through something like this? Or would you rather she were given the chance to get on with her life and make it as positive and worry free as possible?
I agree with you hammerman!

Carakeel,
i think your missing the point?
No one said the victim would go through it all again, it would be in your mind until the day you die, if you read between the lines on what i'm saying? the person who was molested would'nt forgive, they would let the pedeophile rot in jail, ie in other words ''as if the person who was molested would forgive them'' i think not.
So after 15 years the perv MIGHT think hes got a chance of being released from jail, ie counting the days down, when in reality the perv is being given FALSE HOPE by the judge.
Sorry if their was any confusion in my post, explaining it in person and keypadding a response are not the same thing ie showing emotions etc

People like Ian Huntley (and Maxine Carr for that matter) don't deserve to live, hard labour is not good enough. Anyone who intentionally harms a child is pure scum. Do gooders who go on about civil rights of these animals should remember what the word ''civil'' means, you can't even say human rights in there cases.
I know some of you are having a bit of fun with this , but if you have any doubts about the uselessness of capital punishment then read Executioner by Pierrepoint who I believe was our last executioner. his father--I think also served during the war crime trials of WW2.
If nothing else , it certainly makes you think!

I think capital punishement should be brought back but only if the offender is proven guilty 100/%. Another thing the powers that be should do is to close "Open Prisons" At least 5 prisoners have escaped in the last 2 months from one in Wales. They have far too many privaleges we all know that. Prison should be a cell with no tv,radio, games, gym room etc. Let em sit and stew! Also bring back the birch for the yobs!
But surely everyone who gets convicted of murder is 100% guilty....according to the jury.
We can't have laws saying "well he's only 90% guilty so we'll send him down for life" can we ?
Everyone who is sent to prison for murder is 100% guilty.....until any evidence proves them otherwise, and at the time, that evidence would be used to get them off.

Fortunately Daisy, things have moved on a lot since the miscarriages of justice of the 60's, 70's and 80's.
Forensics are almost water tight these days so anyone convicted of murder is usually banged to rights
It's a very emotive subject where a lot of people will say...."hang 'em"....until you really sit back and think about it.

An executed man never re offended, how many rapists murders and pedo's have?. Better one innocent mistake than many, many, innocent victims. Only this week we have seen how many crimes have been committed by ''tagged'' convicted criminals. How many convicts simply just walk out of ''open'' prisons? Open door prisons more like .Prison in this country is a joke, why do you think Abu Hamza doesn't want to be deported.
