For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Retro, I am not aware of the existence of a specific definition of the word 'troll' from AB Towers, but the people I referred to were newcomers - people unknown to AB - who appeared to have arrived with the sole intention of creating disruption and causing trouble. Hence they were despatched.
Gulliver, I didn’t say the rule has only been used twice. If you find it impossible to join this conversation in an adult manner stay away.
Thank you naomi for you answer at 1113. As I thought, the moderators do not seem to have been given the AB definition of trolling to work on.
I have just googled the definition of trolling and most of the sites appear to agree on a similar description of a troll or of trolling. Yet it continues on AB almost on a daily basis and as been stated by other users to almost be actively encouraged.
Another anomaly on this site is the 'Report Button. One of reasons to report a post is Sheer stupidity. Unfortunately ,in the past,I have had occasion to use this facility, mindful ,that it is not to be abused, and the square root of Fanny Adams has been done to remove these inane ,off topic posts. I just can't be bothered anymore.
Retro, I've just posted this elsewhere.
////With regard to the implementation of rule 9, mods may ban newcomers who troll, but the decision to ban established members for any reason is the editorial staff's alone.
Rule 16 of Moderators' Guidelines - which can be accessed in Editor's Blog.
// 16. Moderators must never ban a well established AnswerBank member, for any reason. Well established members can be suspended, and their content can be removed, but their user status should never be changed to "Banned". A well established user is defined by the length of time they have been on The AnswerBank, or the number of questions and answers. //
That applies to all mods and all members. ////
It's becoming clear that the definition of troll or trolling is whatever any given poster wants it to be on any given day.
Rambling, shambling and oft repeated complaints don't fall under that umbrella of course.
Some say that, rather than get into a pointless, tedious and drawn out exchange, the powers that be let spurious complaints from well known agitators wither on the vine.
I think it would be a great shame if it closed down and it is a big support to some people. I'm not sure if I'd personlly miss it (I genuinely mean I'm not sure) however I will say that, unlike when I was here for the first years, I find some of today's longtime regulars show themselves as truly horrible unpleasant people, they turn my stomach. I don't know people like it real life. It's not about not being tolerant to the views of others, it's the way they say it.
