1) Avoid anything that contains sugar and/or caffeine at least three hours before bed time.
2) Keep a blower fire in your room not only for heating but to blank out background noise. When it's warm enough in your sleeping space have it switched on but in cool mode, just for the sound.
3) Use 4-7-8 Breathing.
Exhale completely through your open mouth.
Close your lips and inhale through your nose deeply for a count of four seconds.
Hold your breath for a count of seven sec. and with your lips tightly pursed, exhale completely through your lips for a count of eight sec.
This completes one cycle.
Rest.
This should make you feel calmer and will slow your heart rate.
Repeat the cycle as and when necessary
I haven't slept for more than 4 -5 hrs max a night for years and years, and I've tried everything. Have given up now. Ive tried every drink, tablet, changing time I go to bed, where I sleep, what I eat.... you name it makes no different whatsoever. So I just go online now, maybe play a game I like, read online, sometimes I get up, at some point sleep will finally win but it's often not till about 4 am, and then I'm usually up at 7 ish. What I would do to go to bed and have a full night sleep : (
