I think Hopkirk has got it in just 4 words.

The mistake is getting found out.

And that makes you look like a shady crook and unelectable - so you stand down and receive at tax-payer funded (oh the irony) parachute payment of tens of thousands of pounds.

Never has there been so many former cabinet ministers prepared to shamelessly rip off the country and then expect compensation when they reluctantly bog off to hide their embarrassment.

Do you have any stats to show this?  Because my guess is that its been this way for a very long time and no doubt will continue into the future years. 

I blame career politicians we now have.

His mistake is being a crook! This guy getting elected to parliament should shame the country.

Havent we had this? £3.9m and a 30% uplift ( pain and penalty)

These can be expensive mistakes - - forgetting or not knowing is automatic tax nigligence. Mine was £850 plus £3k lawyers fees getting it down to that.

Quite agree, jno. You can get a nourishing meal for 30p according to 30p Lee.
