Herculis Links Game

Owing to the unforseen (unauthorised?) absence of our esteemed founder (ShamrockBlue) today, who has asked that we keep alive the quest for three stars for correctly predicting the links from todays dtgk crossword with Mondays Hercules, this posting may be used for your entries.
We wish him well on his 'away day' ...... whatever he may be up to. Questions may have to be asked on his return!!

Sorry to hear your daughter was unwell Pauline , I hope she is feeling better again today.

Crofter I think your scoring system is very good indeed, but I do feel we should keep it simple and see it as a bit of fun.
There is certainly an element of skill involved in getting correct links , but also a lot of luck.
Also to be honest the idea of administrating league tables and so on would be too time consuming for me personally.
Anyway we'll see what the concensus is.

Further to my separate earlier posting, and as requested by ShamrockBlue, I hereby award one star to both Stretts and JimJools for providing the most correct answers to this weeks link game. They each provided two correct solutions. Congratulations to them both, but I feel we could do better next week!

I'm beginning to realise just how difficult this can be!

In fact no-one suggested WHEEL SPIN (although crofter did suggest TREAD WHEEL!)

Under the scoring system above, one bonus mark would go to bridgenut for first suggesting TREAD WATER, one to Dee Sa for his first stab at REGENT PARK and one to crofter for his BROAD SWORD.

Adding these to the points for correct answers,those that scored 2 points would be JimJools, Stretts, bridgenut, crofter and Dee Sa and those scoring 1 point would be cpfrosie, pollycat, wickedtongue, Christina, Magyar and addict.Tthis is simply to indicate how the proposed sytem would work.

If the general view, that this should be scrapped, then so be it! If there is general support (but not 100%) then there would be an "opt out" clause. Only those who have agreed to take part will be scored.

As for the time taken, I would not wish to impose this task on another! I would volunteer.

Your thoughts would be appreciated - and be frank. Honest opinions will not offend :-))

I'm in so long as you are prepared to do the (considerable) work involved, Crofter. I simply could not face it.
Do we get free credits if we miss a week?

Crofter, this system could well add even more interest to our existing Hercules twist, however, at present it is available to "all and sundry " as and when one wishes to take part ......... if there was a league table system would it become a ' closed shop?'

Aquagility, when everything is up and running, your actual score will be the total scored over your last FOUR active weeks. If you miss a week, you don't just score zero - your four-week period will be staggered back to cover four active weeks!. Your actual score will indicate only your recent form over the last month (or so).

Samurite as for the work involved, note that although we had say 25 entries, only 8 or 9 entrants scored any points. Note also that just the Hot Shots would be declared - not those in the lower ranks! And anyone would have the right to opt out!

At this stage, I would hope that I could accomodate all-comers! If it grows too big, I'll let you know!

Note also that credit is given to introducing what turns out to be a winning guess - so it makes sense to go early with some good ideas!
