Laptop Issue

the other day my laptop - dell precision M6800 - stopped working. i started it up & i got a few seconds of the fans starting up etc, then nothing, i just stopped.

so all that happens now, with the power lead plugged in, & with my finger held down on the button, all that happens is the on/off symbol lights up & the light on the capslock button comes on.

however the hinges on this laptop broke a little while ago, so i had to prop it up, but as im using it on a tray on my knee, while in bed (ive been ill) so its fallen forward & back quite a lot, & the thin plastic frame bit sometime pinged forward & i had to click them back into place

so im thinking that maybe a wire has come loose or damaged, in the fold area?

i swapped the battery & the power cord but nothing changed.

Ive got replacement hinges, but im wondering if there could be another reason for the fault.

Any ideas?
Thanks :)

I`ve had a similar problem with hinges even though I only open and close once a day. You were lucky to get new hinges as many suppliers dont make much of an effort to keep stock of those or case parts. If you can get someone to take it to a reliable repairer it should be a fairly simple job.
