If I have arthritis in the feet is it ok for me to run gently. I need to lose weight and this is the only exercise I can do.  Thanks

Is your ankle and foot better. Start by walking then gradually  increase speed

Can you adjust the incline on the treadmill?

Walking would be less harmful than running.

For losing weight you may have more success by eating less food.

Walking is fine, as said by Sandy,  if you can increase the incline  so its like walking gently uphill.  And look at your diet, maybe cut down your carbs, for a woman   a portion of potatoes is an ice cream scoop of mash,or  2 egg sized boiled potatoes , or a baked spud the size of a smallish apple. Or about 8-10 chips   Rice  a small yoghurt pot, pasta ,30g raw weight.

have you got a treadmill?

JJ I have arthritis in my feet and I can hardly walk never mind run gently.

The only exercise I know of that is good for people with arthritis, is swimming but, if you cannot swim, then try exercises that are not weight-bearing.

Running is the last thing you want to do. Low impact like stationary bike or cross trainer, much better.

I agree with Pete, don't put yourself through it.

I agree with Pete, don't put yourself through it. Very minimal weight is lost through exercise in comparison with a calorie deficit. Find out your BMR and your TDEE Through online calculators, and eat at a deficit of around 500 cal per day if you can. Or work it out over the week so some days you eat less and some days you eat more.
