Grand.

'With Hastings backing the Tories to win'.... 'Never trust a Tory'.

That makes no sense.  Why do you believe him?

Question Author

Sir Max says he was the one that made a fool of himself thinking he could Trust Boris.Expecting him to pay up if he lost the bet.I should have listened to every one of his friends who really knew him and said he would  not honour his bet. And he didn't..

Question Author

Boris  couldn't be trusted with paying a £1,000 bet.             And you lot trusted him to run your Country . But he ran it into the Ground.

Anyone who would welsh on a bet is...is an unmitigated cad.

If he's a member of any respectable club they should black ball him without delay.

gully - are you insane? It seems like it.

Question Author

Don't know much about Boris and black balls Sandy .

Question Author

Sir Max asked Boris for his money After the election. And after months of stalling Boris said his cheque was in the post ....But it never was.

Question Author

Sir Max said he got his £1,000 back from his cheque that Boris cashed in after threatening to give the Story to Private Eye.  But Boris never paid up on the the Bet.

Does anyone know what Gulliver is prattling on about - and why?

He's saying that Boris doesn't know the meaning of the word, 'probity'.

That'll be a pot and kettle job then.

This may help Naomi, although it's a bit muddled and we only get one side of the story/non-story.

I've no idea why Hastings sent Boris an undated cheque for an election due 5 years later according to one claim

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/boris-johnson-made-1000-general-33127449

At least gulliver is consistent with his weird misuse of capital letters mid sentence and incorrect spacing around commas and full stops

Thanks NMA.  Fourteen years after the alleged event and from the Mirror.  What an absolute load of tosh.  And that's News.  🙄

The Mirror may be trying to make a preemptive strike and destroy any hope among the men in grey suits that Cincinnatus Johnson would return for a little while and save the Tories from a disaster.

Just an idle thought.

jesus updated / undated....lordy lordy

presumably it is a play on the betting scandal - ( "but dont bet on it", I hear a AB quipster er quip)

or even a play on "Keep out of it Boris, then the Tories will have a better chance".

as for Cinncinnatus Johnson - er no - Both Marius and Sulla ( ROman Republic that is ! ) show triumphant returns may not be that triumphant

It doesn't help Naomi that gulliver has got the wrong end of the stick again.

gulliver writes "With Hasting backing the Tories to win with a majority."

Whereas the article says "Sir Max Hastings last night told how he sent the ex-PM an undated cheque after they made the wager - with the latter backing a Tory majority."

It was Johnson not Hastings that backed a Tory majority (or win, depending whose account you believe). The Tories won, but not with a majority.
