Good morning, NACW, thanks for the answer to my last clue to the Spectator (BOSCH)!
A final shot at the EV 1648 for the instructions! I’m no good at finding extra letters or removal of extra words. In fact, I solved the clues ( with the exception of two ) without searching for words to remove. I would be happy to have the sixteen words to see if I can work out the two instructions. Many thanks in advance!

The last clue that stumps me:

21 With no restraints welcome wader ( 3 ) RE?

( I think I have the first UNCLUED: B…..L )

PREAMBLE: Sixteen clues need an extra word removed to enable solving. The first and last letters of those words, read in clue order, give two instructions with regard to the unclued entries, the person who did what the first instruction says ( making WESTWARD HO possible) and 20 cells to highlight. Chambers Dictionary ( 2016 ) is recommended.

I am sorry Matakari - I have thrown away my copy and cannot remember everything else!

Thank you, JJ109!
Is there snybody else who can assist me with this aspect of the EV 1648? I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Matakari. I was happy to help - and very glad that your last batch contained only one clue!

Your opening post puzzled me. If we simply gave you all the 16 words, in what way would you be 'working out the instructions'? Wouldn't you just be reading them, from the list given? I know you never like extra words, letters, missing letters etc, but these are often a major part of a themed puzzle - and can be immensely satisfying.

I'd be happy to give you a list of the 16 clues that contain an extra word. Let me know if you'd like that.

Ok, I see what you mean, NACW, yes I would like a list of the 16 clues that contain an extra word, and I'll work from there for my own enlightenment.

Thanks, Matakari. I was keen for you to engage with the puzzle, rather than just get the benefit of someone else's endeavours!

Across - 6,13,15,17,28,34,37 and 41.

Down - 3,8,16,24,32,36,37 and 39.

Some of the extras  are more obvious than others. And as you're working down these, you should see some likely-looking words starting to emerge.

PS There's a new CC puzzle - but it involves extra and missing letters!

Many thanks, NACW, this should be quite helpful.

Matakari, I'd be thrilled if you'd got this Chalicea puzzle all done and dusted? The blog for it is now on fifteensquared, you might find that of interest.

PS Were you happy to see the Doc again this morning?
