I Am A Supermarket Snob-Advice Please
Having seen TV programme about own brand products, where, both Lidl and Aldi came off well in comparisons,I think I would like to try both?
The nearest Lidl is about 13 miles from me and Aldi about 11 miles
Aldi is seeking planning permission for a shop in Rye(3 miles from me!)
Which of the two would you choose and why?
Thank You
Gordon

I find Lidl offer more brand names than Aldi who seem to stock more of their own brands. They have themed weeks and offer some unusual products, the Italian week is especially good with lots of charcuterie and different pastas. The bakery is superb with fresh bread baked on site - sour dough loaves are as good as artisan baked and half the price. We are lucky to have a brand new one 20 minutes away by car, in an affluent area. I did recently visit one in a run down area and it was a bit of a dump to be honest.
My Aldi is bright and spacious whereas my nearest Lidl is really dark and dingy. This afternoon called in at the Lidl nearest my daughter, a lot newer, brighter, but still a couple of dark aisles. I get west country butter with salt crystals from Aldi. I'd prefer Aldi but dislike all supermarkets equally, but we have no high street so no choice. You seem to be enjoying life, finding out all these new things, Gordon.
If Aldi delivered, I would use them more. I do think that the shelf life on Aldi's fruit and veg seems shorter, but we are now into the part of the year when we harvest our own stuff so it's less relevant. I think Aldi's meat is superior to Tesco and better value, but if possible I buy our meat direct from the farmer or at a local butcher.
I quite like Morrisons too, but every time they have delivered they have cocked it up.
I have never been to Lidl. A firm vote for Aldi from me.
